Phillies are staying loose early on.
I think the Kendrick prank has gotten enough talk by now that most people have seen it, and in case you missed it, here’s a chance to view it.
I’m glad to see that the Phillies are getting news on ESPN because of how relaxed they are. Also, pulling a prank like that requires a close chemistry among the team. I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again, Charlie Manuel is a great manager. I know as soon as the season begins, there’s going to be head hunters out there calling for his job. But sometimes, knowing strategy isn’t the only requirement for managaing a team. By keeping them loose, they aren’t feeling the pressure of having to repeat as Division champs. And sometimes it is easy to forget that professional athletes are human. While some people enjoy playing under pressure, playing an entire season under intense pressure from one’s manager will definetly take it’s toll. All in all, this prank shows that the team is closely-knit and that Charlie is keeping them loose and making sure they are having fun going into the season.
I also am even more anxious for the first Phillies/Mets series of the season as Beltran pulled a Rollins and is already starting the trash talking. I don’t know how it didn’t happen last year, but it’s only a matter of time until there’s going to be a bench-clearing brawl. And not one where everyone just stands around, but when punches are actually thrown.
