Eagles Slap Franchise Tag on LJ Smith
The Eagles have put the franchise tag on LJ Smith. Honestly, this disappoints me. It’s not that LJ Smith doesn’t have sparks of greatness. It’s just that he’s never, ever been consistent. Never. Not even during their Super Bowl run.
As the NFL Guru puts it, Smith is prone to injury and he’s a below average blocker.
I was hoping that the Eagles would make trade Smith for a solid draft pick or a more consistent tight end, or even a solid defensive back. We don’t really have any depth in our defensive backfield and with Dawk getting older and Shephard prone to injury, a trade for Smith could have bought us some depth and youth.
What does Smith bring us? Glimmers of glory, but more than not, plain old mediocrity.
