Sports… the Philadelphia way

Phillies lose ground with 10 inning loss.

The Good: Thank you Mr. Moyer for giving it you best shot. I love that we have the best outfield arms in the game. Outfield assists are almost as exciting as all the stolen bases we get. That’s about it. It’s hard to see much good in a 1 run, 6 hit performance.

The Bad: Talk about a boring game. But more importantly, talk about a frustrating game. If someone told you Moyer could go 6.0 innings and only allow 1 run, you would think that the Phillies would be able to complete the sweep. I guess this isn’t a “bad” thing, but why would anyone walk Howard 4 times. You got a 20/80 chance of either a homerun or strikeout. I like those odds enough to keep the pitches in the strike zone. And it’s acceptable for Rollins to have a few tough games, but when he goes 0-5, there is little chance of the Phillies scoring runs.

I haven’t jinxed Lohse by mentioning it before his last few starts, so . . . Lohse is undefeated since coming over to Philadelphia. But then again, he’s only had 2 wins. He’s been rescued by the bats a few times and have suffered form the bats not showing up. But once again this is crunch time, and on this rotation, Lohse is one of the experienced starters. As Moyer showed he can do, it’s time to bear down and put together a good start. Lohse has had a little trouble in his last 4 starts, allowing 3 runs in 3 of those games.

Last start (9/15): ND / 5.0 / 3 ER / 7 H / 4 BB / 3 SO / New York

Jason Bergmann comes into Thursday competition with a 5-5 record and a 4.38 ERA. He’s had some trouble with a shoulder and hamstring injury throughout the year, but has stayed relatively healthy since his last DL visit. Against the Phillies this year in 3 starts, he’s 0-0 and allowed 6 ER in 14.2 innings pitched.

Last start (9/15): W / 6.2 / 4 ER / 8 H / 3 BB / 3 SO / Atlanta

Last words . . . so how much longer until Myers’ arm falls off? He doesn’t have to pitch every game, or does he?
