Sports… the Philadelphia way

14 inning win.

The Good:  Now this is a freakin’ ball club.  They are once again the Fightin’ Phils.  They did not want to hand this game over to the Cards, especially since they knew the Mets had lost.  Barajas is now worth 10% of what his contract is earning him.  Even though 90% of his contract is paying for a grown man to sit on a bench everyday of the week, at least 10% of his contract he earned with that basehit.  And Werth’s RBI’s were just as big.  I can almost guarantee if Condrey was only given a 1-run lead, it would’ve been lost.  However, those extra 2 RBI’s really closed the deal.  We’re in a Pennant race!

The Bad: It’s come to the point that I don’t care how the Phillies win anymore.  I don’t care if they blow an 11-run lead or it takes 14 innings to score an extra run, every win is absolutely HUGE.  As long as the Phillies win, I’ll have nothing to complain about.  Except that Hamels didn’t have his control and if he’s not pitching his best game, I think we’re all screwed.

It didn’t take much for Moyer to have an improvement over his last previous starts. But he really out did himself last time out. And that is exactly what is neccessary for the team to make the final push. The underperformers need to step up, and Mr. Moyer is one of the top underperformers on this team. And Wednesday is a perfect time for Moyer to scrap together a good start as this bullpen is showing it’s wear. They have been on a good run but due to their constant use, exhaustion is going to kick in soon. Phillies have a bad enough bullpen without them suffereing from overuse.

Last start (9/14): ND / 7.0 / 2 ER / 4 H / 2 BB / 2 SO / New York

The ace of the staff, Adam Wainwright, goes against Philadelphia in the series finale. He’s coming off of 2 straight losses, but in each game he kept the opponenet to 2 runs. He’s actually kept the opponent to under 2 runs in his last 7 starts. The Phillies are gonna have their work cut out for him as Wainwright has pretty good numbers against Philadelphia this year. He’s 2-0 in 2 starts with 2 ER’s in 13.0 innings. Wainwright is a sinker ball pitcher who is very effective against righties. But he doesn’t not have great control of his breaking stuff and gets hit around by lefties.

Last start (9/14): L / 7.0 / 2 ER / 5 H / 2 BB / 3 SO / Chicago

Last words . . . Freddy Garcia has taken Barajas’ spot as the biggest waste of space on the team.
