Sports… the Philadelphia way

The Good: NOTHING

The Bad: Everything. The pitching. The bullpen. The offense. The only thing that is going to help this team is 6 months of rest. Let’s go 2008.

Thanks to the Phillies, my roommates now think that I am bi-polar. That first inning exactly sums up what it is to be a Phillies fan. Pop up lands four inches from Pat Burrell. Sacrifice bunt turns into a hit. Then *poof* triple play and I’m happy again. That happiness carries over into the second half of that inning in which the Phillies load the bases with no outs. Then the great and powerful Ryan Howard strikes out against a guy that literally couldn’t throw a ball into water if he was sitting in a boat in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean. And Rowand and Dobbs do nothing to help produce any runs. But I have to admit that I felt a little happier when Torrealba gets tossed. But I’m once more in tears when Kendrick leaves the game.

This is unbelievable. I don’t want to say too much, at least not until we find out how severe Kendrick’s injury is, but regardless. What the hell did the Phillies do to piss of the baseball gods this much? When Kendrick took that line drive off the knee, I started laughing. This has really been a very memorable year. I just want this trip to hell to end already before someone gets seriously injured.

It’s hard to criticize Durbin on his last start since he received no help from his defense. Two errors from Burrell and Howard turned a routine inning into a poor outing. But he also didn’t help himself by allowing four walks in only 4.1 innings. I’m pretty sure that September isn’t Durbin’s favorite month, but if you’re looking for some positives, at least his ERA can’t get much higher in this month (18.69). I hope.

Last start (9/7): L / 4.1 / 2 ER / 5 H / 4 BB / 3 SO / Florida

The Rockies send to the mound Thursday, Jeff Francis, who is 15-7 with a 4.05 ERA. In his last start, he got stuck with a very tough loss. Two runs in eight innings is a pretty good outing. He has faced the Phillies once this year. In that start he allowed 12 hits and 6 runs in 5.0 innings. He has a low-90 fastball and a nasty curveball. Both are complemented by his excellent control.

Last start (9/8): L / 8.0 / 2 ER / 4 H / 2 BB / 3 SO / San Diego

Last words . . . so how long until Rollins gets hurt? He’s the only “real” starter left.

Relax it will all be over very soon. From a “Phillies Fan” of 45 yrs. Then the promos for next year will be that “injuries like we had will never happen again.
