Sports… the Philadelphia way

5 hit performance results in loss.

The Good: Five hits in nine innings. Nothing good comes from that.

The Bad: There’s the Howard we know and love, no hits and two strikeouts. Some of you are probably thinking to yourself that I’m a jerk for criticizing a guy that just won the Phillies a game the other day, but this is ridiculous. I understand not getting hits, but the strikeouts have to stop. I understand that power hitters strikeout, but he’s soon going to have his very own record. But it’s not just his fault. Five hits is all the Phillies could muster. That’s why a team can’t just rely on scoring runs. Good pitching makes every game a possible win. But with the inconsistency that comes with hitting, relying on scoring ten runs a game is going to lead to a lot of frustration.

Kendrick comes into this start with an impressive 8-3 record. It could very easily be 9-3 but I’m sure that most of you are still trying to forget about how the bullpen blew an six run lead in the 8th. Although he won three of his last four starts, one has to start worrying about his minor league arming pitching a major league schedule. He’s a young guy and doesn’t have much experience with pitching this long into a season. The Phillies are still “in a playoff race” so he needs to keep going out there every five games. I just hope that he doesn’t fall into trouble when his arm becomes fatigued.

Last start (9/5): ND / 5.0 / 2 ER / 6 H / 0 BB / 2 SO / Atlanta

At the time that I wrote this blog, the Phillies website had not announced who was starting for the Rockies. So all I have to say is that the Phillies better get more then five hits off of whoever is put out there.

Last words . . . is there any real chance that Rollins could sneak away with the NL MVP.
