Sports… the Philadelphia way

Phillies pitchers can’t control longball.

The Good: After Eaton hit that homerun, I started thinking. Maybe he’s the next Rick Ankiel. Is Jayson Werth the next David Delluchi, or could he put up these types of numbers throughout an entire season? With each big game Rowand has for the rest of the year, is another million dollars the Phillies are going to have to pay for the chance of resigning him.

The Bad: Chicks dig the long ball, and right now they’re digging the Marlins. Eaton was so close to having a good outing, too bad Charlie didn’t pull him after the 3rd. Who the hell is Cody Ross and why did he go 3-for-4 with 3 RBI’s.

Hitting is hard enough without the umpire expanding his strikezone by 2 feet at the end of the game. I don’t like placing the blame off of the Phillies, but that was an ugly way to end it. But back to the players. Once again there is no one to blame but the pitching for this loss. Six runs should be enough for a win. But when you add in a bullpen of scrubs and a starter that flat out sucks, it’s not. I was impressed with how the Phillies fought until the very end. But that doesn’t cut it. It still counts as a loss and that’s already one too many for this team. With the Mets sweeping the Braves and possibly getting back on track, the Phillies have to learn how to beat the bad teams. And with Pedro returning and Hamels not, it could possibly be too much for this team to overcome. With Atlanta being the next opponent, the Phillies once again can’t afford to lose anymore series.

Moyer comes into Monday’s game with a 12-10 record with an ERA of 5.08 (6.33 in the last 30 days). Coming off a decent start, Moyer really needs to start contributing to this rotation. His last game resulted in a win for him because Marlon Anderson thought that pushing the second baseman as he was turning a double-play was allowed. Moyer just really needs to get his act together. Nothing has changed over the year. Earlier he was doing fine and then all of a sudden he starts getting rocked. I guess his gameplan of pitching slower, slower, and slower no longer is tricking the opponents.

Last start (8/29): W / 6.0 / 2 ER / 8 H / 2 BB / 4 SO / New York

We should see plenty of righties in Monday’s game. Lance Cormier, in 7 games this year, has lefties batting .173, while righties are batting .402. His last start resulted in his first win of the year. but what do you expect when his oppoent was the scumbag Scott Olsen. Cormier has faced the Phillies earlier in the season, on August 11th, where he only lasted four innings, giving up four runs in the process. He has a good changeup matched with good control. But he does not have anything hard and can result in him giving up a lot of hits (42 in 32.0 innings pitched).

Last start: W / 7.0 / 2 ER / 6 H / 3 BB / 5 SO / Florida

Last words . . . at least now Kane Davis can feel comfortable with the rest of the bullpen guys.
