Phillies score early and often.
The Good: Got an important run in the first. If they leave Rollins stranded on 3rd in the first inning, this whole game could’ve been different. Werth is on another planet right now.
The Bad: Three Phillies get hit by a pitch. Regardless of if they were intentional or not, next time Mitre comes up to bat, he should’ve gotten a fastball right in the ribs. Maybe that would teach him some control.
How awesome is Chase Utley? In the 8th inning, up by five with runners on 1st and 2nd, Chase Utley is hit on the foot by a pitch. Instead of pointing it out to the umpire, he stays in the box and acts as if the pitch did not him him. And then what does he do with that “saved” at-bat? He’s hits a 2-run double. He is the PERFECT baseball player.
This is the exact type of game the Phillies needed. We all know that the Phillies have trouble against the not so good teams. And I think everyone was a little nervous coming into this game. But with Kendrick starting, we were in good position. But when he got hit with that pitch, I really panicked. He is one of the biggest reasons why the Phillies are still in contention. Even though he did finish out the game with a strong seven innings, I say we all hold our breath to see what the doctors say about his arm. I have to admit that with all the winning that is going on, I’m getting quite use to it. I almost forget what it’s like to lose. But I’m pretty sure the Phillies will lose at least one more. Everyone is feeling pretty good right now about this team. But with Hamels having to wait another two weeks before possibly coming back, I really wonder if they can keep it together long enough.
J.D. Durbin has been doing his best Kyle Kendrick impression lately by keeping the Phillies in the games in which he starts. Of his last three starts he has allowed, four runs once, and two runs twice. Many people may not remember much about Durbin’s last start as the main story was Utley’s return to the lineup. However it was the first game of the Mets series and helped the team get off on a good foot; doing so against one of the best offenses in the National League. And something I would like to point out is zero walks in that start.
Last start: W / 6.1 / 2 ER / 6 H / 0 BB / 6 SO / New York
Claimed off waivers by the Diamondbacsk at the beginning of August and signed as a free agent by the Marlins at the end of that month, Byung-Hyum Kim has been well traveled this season. Saturday will be his first start since August 14th and his first as a Marlin. Since coming over to the Marlins, he has been used in a few relief appearances. Kim is known for his unorthodox delivery, but is only effective against righties (.218) as lefties are batting .296. He can have some trouble with control and is known to have a “bad attitude.
Last start (8/14): L / 0.1 / 3 ER / 4 H / 1 BB / 0 SO / Florida
Last words . . . looks like we’ll have to wait a little bit longer for the return of Hamels, I guess I jinxed him by wearing his jersey today.
