Sports… the Philadelphia way

I LOVE THIS GAME!!!

The Good: Where the hell do I start? A four game sweep of the division leaders. Howard hitting a homerun. Burrell hitting one. His second one doesn’t count because Wagner just accdidently threw the ball at his bat. Rowand and Werth making two amazing plays at the fence. Werth stealing two bases. Iguchi with that HUGE single. Iguchi stealing secnd. Or my favorite, KICKING WAGNER’S ASS!!!

The Bad: Despite Alfonseca’s best attempts to sabotage the win, the Phillies were able to sweep those bums. I just don’t understand how a professional baseball player cannot throw strikes. I do understand being hit around if your stuff is “off,” but you should always be able to throw strikes. But who cares, we WON.

Whoever says baseball is a slow game should be smacked silly. If you’re reading this blog having missed the game, you may have missed one of the greatest games ever. I’ve never felt such a wide range of emotions. When the pitching gave up both of the leads, I quite literally felt sick to my stomach. When Wagner struck out Utley to start the 8th, I felt pure anger at Wagner, that freakin’ rat. When Burrell hit his second homerun, I had to check the VCR to make sure a “feel-good” movie wasn’t playing. It made me feel warm and fuzzy. Then when Werth stole the two bases, I was laughin myself sick. I could not believe that he could steal two bases without even getting a throw. Then when Utley came up with the game winning hit, I started tearing up.

Where’d all the Charlie hatters go? This guy is amazing. Get him signed to a longer contract right now. If he can keep this team in it with all the injuries they had, they could win 100 games at full health. I love Charlie and will defend his name forever, or until they have a losing season.

Kendrick was the beneficiary of fourteen runs in his last start. I would have liked to see him last more then 6 innings, but Charlie thought that six was enough. After an emtionally charged series with the Mets, the Phillies could come into this game a little tired. But they did the hard part of narrowing the gap for their path to the playoffs, now they have to worry about not letting up. And we all know that Mr. Consistency is going to keep them in the game, so it’s going to be up to the bats to win the game.

Last start: W / 6.0 / 1 ER / 6 H / 1 BB / 4 SO / San Diego

Sergio Mitre needs a nice long nap. He hasn’t pitched this long into a season in his entire career. And that showed in his last start in which he got knocked around. Mitre is really nothing more then a fifth starter. He has a sinking fastball and curveball that he can throw for strikes but righty’s are hitting .318 off of him. Lefties also hit him well due to his lack of velocity.

Last start: L / 6.0 / 7 ER / 10 H / 2BB / 1 SO / Cincinnati

Last words . . . the Phils really need to win this series against eh Marlins, instead of always losing to the sub-.500 teams.

That was the best freakin’ sporting event I’ve ever been to. I’m still soaking it up.

If you were there, you know what I’m talking about. Everyone sticking around afterwards hi-fiving. What a blast.
