Ugly, ugly loss.
The Good: No comment.
The Bad: 15 freakin’ runs. To a team that doesn’t score runs.
I would like to thank my friend, Michele, for giving me a reason to miss the game. If I hadn’t been going out to dinner, I may have broken my tv, or my hand. I’m not upset so much at the fact that they lost so badly. Because at the end of the season, it’s just going to be another loss, despite the fact how many runs they scored. I’m more upset at the fact that this is what the rest of the season is going to be. Minor league pitchers starting for the Phillies. Although Hamels is due back by September, by the time he returns, the Phils could be a good 10 games back in the East and Wildcard.
Once again, I love Chris Coste and I think Barajas should be left in the minors or just released at the end of the year. Rowand needs to be resigned no matter what the cost. Honestly, why do we have to pay $4.75 for a hot dog? So that we can have Chris Roberson as our starting centerfielder. And I don’t know if this is more important, but Iguchi needs to be turned into a 3rd baseman and resigned, regardless of the fact that he went 0-for-4 today.
But more imporantly then the position players, something has to be done about this bullpen. I know there’s a difference between pitching in a one run game and pitching in a mop up role, but this bullpen is only a few pieces away from being “bangin’.” With Mad-dog returning eventually and Myers as the closer(?), you’ve got your most important guys, 8th and 9th inning. Just fill in anyone that is over 22 and under 50. So that would exclude Mesa, Alfonseca, and all the other AAA boys.
Fabio Castro starts for the Phillies tomorrow. Excuse me while I have a good laugh. 12.27 ERA. Yea, it’s from 3.2 innings pitched but this is the crap I’m talking about. With all these injuries, he’s their best option. And worst off all there’s no one to blame. It would be nice to use the old reliable Charlie Manuel scapegoat, but he’s actually doing a decent job. As for the Dodgers, they send out Chad Billingsley. 7-4 with a 3.63 ERA, he’s a power pitcher with good control, complimented with a good curveball. A .194 average against righties, lefties are batting .287, hopefully he’ll be facing an aggressive Phillies team looking to issue some payback.
Last start: ND / 5.0 / 3 ER / 8 H / 1 BB / 4 SO / Colorado
Last words . . . at least we didn’t have to play the Texas Rangers.
