Phillies rediscover their bats.
The Good: Rowand’s homerun was nice, especially since Howard STRUCK OUT LOOKING prior to that. Being able to score runs throughout the ENTIRE game. The Real Deal putting out a quality start. Zagurski’s back!!!
The Bad: Kata’s homerun coming on an 0-2 count with 2 outs. Mesa had a chance to show up his ex-team, but um . . . nope. Howard really needs to get out of that slump.
I love Jimmy Rollins. Any player that can hit (average and power), field, run, and has a good personality is OK in my book. But there’s one thing about him that really annoys me. I don’t want to say he’s a slacker, because he’s not. He’s a tough player who does just about everything right. The one thing he doesn’t do right is score. Whenever he’s coming home to score on a base hit in the outfield, he trots him. And by trot I mean literally crawls home. If he hits a ball in the gap, he’ll hustle as fast as anyone to make it a triple. But when he’s on third and someone drives a hit into the outfield, he walks home while watching the play. I’m waiting for something to happen that will prevent him from scoring, then I can yell from the top of my lungs, “I told you so.” But enough Rollins bashing. He better get a gold glove this year, he’s more then deserving. And I think it’s time that people stop criticizing him as a lead-off hitter.
Jamie Moyer comes into Saturday’s start coming off a big win against Atlanta. Moyer seems to be turning his season around after going 0-3 from June 27th to July 16th in which he allowed 22 runs. With this bullpen starting to come together, all needs to do is make it through six innings keeping this team in it. Paul Maholm comes into this start coming off a complete game against San Francisco. A pitcher with terrific control, Maholm however has a average fastball at best and often gets in trouble early in the game.
Last start: W / 9.0 / 1 ER / 3 H / 0 BB / 4 SO / San Francisco
Last words . . . I think baseball needs a friggin’ salary cap.
