The King is back.
The Good: I once again believe in King Cole. If Coste is God, Rowand has got to be the Holy Spirit (nothing like a little blasphemy in a baseball blog). The Iguchi deal isn’t proving to be as worthless as I had originally thought it would be.
The Bad: I’m waiting for the camera guy to come out from the closet to tell me I’m on Candid Camera. How many more injuries does this team have to go through? It’s getting to the point where it’s almost as bad as it was for the Yankees at the beginning of the season. If Victorino or Bourn have to go on the 15-Day DL, I might have a knipschit.
“Quit playin’ games with my heart (with my heart)
Before you tear us apart (my heart)
Quit playin’ games with my heart
I should’ve known from the start
You know you’ve gotta stop (from my heart)
You’re tearin’ us apart (my heart, my heart)
Quit playin’ games with my heart”
Can anyone put it any better then the Backstreet Boys did? 9 wins out of the last 10 games! One of which coming off of the very good, and very hot Chicago Cubs. I’m gonna break my neck from all this bandwagon jumping I’m doing. They’re still far way from being the team to beat in the NL East and the constant injuries that are plaguing this team sure aren’t helping. But tomorrow, when reality kicks in, everyone should realize is that this team is simply treading water in the middle of the Bermuda Triangle being surrounded by Hammerhead Sharks. And let me tell you, they smell the blood. It’s amazing that they aren’t keeping the Nationals company in the cellar of the NL East right now. But it comes to a point where if all of your starters get hurt, you stop winning games. Every pitcher you call up isn’t going to perform like Kendrick. And every hitter you bring up isn’t going to be as experienced as Coste. The might be the most painful season yet because they could be in 1st place by quite a margin if even half of these injuries could have been avoided.
So I guess I’m wrong. I guess Hamels doesn’t need a 3rd pitch. Because after watching Monday’s game, his changeup was making batters look bad from the 1st to the 8th inning. The main thing for him is his control, which is the exact reason why Lilly was ineffective today. So all we can hope for is that Hamels writes down in his notes what he did differently today then he did in his last few starts and can once again be the ace that this team needs so desperately.
For my little spiel on Eaton, just go back a for blogs and re-read it. Because even 100 games into the season, I still have no idea which Eaton will be pitching tomorrow. As for the Cubs, Jason Marquis has seen better months. In 3 of his last 4 starts, he has allowed 6 runs. In those 3 starts, he hasn’t gone farther then 5.0 innings. So this could turn into a blowout if Eaton feels like pitching like a major leaguer. Or could turn into a slugfest at the friendly confines of Wrigley Field.
Last start: L / 5.0 / 6 ER / 5 H / 4 BB / 1 SO / St. Louis
Last words . . . Kyle Lohse, just what we need, another average pitcher to go with an average rotation.
