Coste is God.
The Good: After another amazing day from Rollins, I’m starting to think that he should be left as a 5-hole hitter when Utley comes back. A guy with so much power could drive in twice as many runs if he was slotted back a few spots. The only problem would be that he may have limited base stealing opportunities if Rhino is on base ahead of him.
The Bad: If Madson is hurt, I may actually cry. Just when the bullpen was actually starting to look halfway decent, he has to hurt himself.
Chris Coste, Chris Coste, Chris Coste!!! If he doesn’t start at least 2 of the next 3 games, I will personally hunt down Charlie Manuel and stick a bat up his ass sideways. This all has been said before but really, what else does he have to do? At the very least, Coste should by now locked his position on the Major League team. No more Minor League games for him. He is such an unbelievable clutch player that sometimes it’s . . . hard to believe. I guess spending all his life in the minors has forced him to put 100% into all of his at-bats up in the majors to make sure he doesn’t get sent down again. I think I speak for everyone (except Phillies management) when I say Coste is here to stay.

I don’t want to take anything away from a sweep, but the Pirates, eww. The Phillies will finally get to face some “professional teams” with the upcoming series of the Cubs and Brewers. While the Brewers have been cooling off after their amazing start, the Cubs are starting to heat up. Now I’ve been trying very hard to not get excited after the 5-1 homestand. But we’ll see exactly how good this team is after facing the top NL Central teams. While it’s good that the Phillies will miss Zambrano, the rest of that staff isn’t going to be a walk in the park. This offensive team will really be put to the test to see if they can continue to score runs, even with the absence of Utley.
Once again Hamels finds himself in a pitcher’s duel. It’s nice to see that he seems to have his control back. The June 29th game in which he had 5 BB’s was scary. All I would like to see now is a start full of strikeouts and I’ll be as giddy as a school girl. The Cubs send to the mound Ted Lilly. Zambrano may be the ace of this staff, but boy does Lilly have some good numbers. In his last 9 starts, he is 7-0. And besides a few bad starts at the end of June, he’s having a year. The most amazing stat for Lilly is his 32 BB in 132.2 innings.
Last start: W / 7.0 / 1 ER / 6 H / 3 BB / 2 SO / St. Louis
Last words . . . 2-0 with Iguchi, what a smart move that was.
