The one that got away.
***I had a nice blog written this morning about last night’s amazingly exciting game. However, when I clicked on the “publish” button, my computer/internet decided that it would rather send me an error sign. And since I was already running late for work, did not have time to repost. I know how many of you are very sad, but don’t worry . . . we had today’s game to look forward to.
The Good: Eaton had a decent game. His numbers would have been better if the bullpen could have stranded some runners, but that’s asking too much of them. I don’t know about you guys, but I’m really starting to not hate Burrell too much. He’s had at least 1 RBI in 6 of his last 9 games and more imporantly, his strikeout numbers have gone down greatly.
The Bad: Why does Barajas continue to start? I know that you paid him a large sum of money so you kinda have to let him play, but really how did the managament get him so wrong? He’s absolutely terrible. And Coste still is playing nearly as much as he should. Ruiz should start 65% of the games, Coste 30%, and as for the last 5% maybe put Barajas back there, or maybe a cardboard cut out of a catcher.
Well, it looks like the world is going to end. If Utley’s hand ends up being broken, you can officially give up on the Phillies. I’m not gonna bother going through all his stats and where he’s ranked in many of the categories because Harry does it every game. But I can tell you, it’s going to be very determental to this already struggling, inconsistent team. Take out the most consistent player and it’s gonna get ugly quick. All I can think of is putting Nunez and second. While the defense would be about the same (if not improved), I’d say the offense would be a little on the negative side. All I can say is that everyone say a few extra prayers at night hoping that a miracle happens and he’s fine by tomorrow.
I hate umpries. And it’s games like this that really piss me off. Why the hell would this rookie be throwing at players? His team is ahead and it’s the beginning of an inning. Nothing has happened that would give anyone any possible idea that Lannan was throwing at either of these guys. All that happened was that he was trying to come inside on Utley. After plunking him, he just happened to get a little ratteled and lost some of his control and hit Howard. Wendelstedt just wanted to get a little attention. Umpires just need to sit there, do their job, and stop trying to run the game. The game runs itself, they just have to keep it moving.
Tell me if this theory is a crackpot, but howabout Cordero as our closer. I know it’s not as easy as just wanting a player and trading for him, but he seems like he’d be a nice addition. Young and good. Those are the requirements I look for. Though I would get annoyed at the uncurved brim of his hat, but as long as he can get the job done, I won’t care. I came up with this mustly on the idea that the Nationals suck. Hopefully the Phillies would be able to give up some players (which ones I really don’t know) and swip a deal. Probably will never happen, but it’s nice to think up deals.
To help you imagine who the Phillies are going up against tomorrow, you just have to look at his line from his last start. John Van Benschoten has been hit around by righties, who are hitting .323 off him. As for Moyer, hopefully his last start is a sign that he found out what he was doing wrong and can turn it around.
Last start: L / 2.0 / 9 ER / 6 H / 2 BB / 0 SO / Colorado
Last words . . . Zagurski is getting close to not being my favorite player anymore.
