Sports… the Philadelphia way

#3 for Kendrick and 3 from the Phillies.

The Good:  Avoided a sweep.  Even though they had been embarrassed at home for three games, they got their shit together and won a game.  Dobbs, Victorino, and Rowand all getting 2-out RBI’s.  That may be my new favorite statistic.  I think it’s because in the past those were impossible to get.  Kendrick is starting to look like one of the better pitchers on this staff.  Nothing against him, but that’s pretty pathetic.

The Bad:  They lost 3 games before they won this one.  Not much to complain about today.  However my pessimistic attitude tells me that I’ll have plenty to be upset about in no time.

I think Manuel’s new plan to lose weight is to constantly walk out to the mound, even when a pitching change isn’t necessary.  I don’t want to bash him because all his moves turned into a win.  And maybe Kendrick and Zagurski were both one batter away from blowing the game.  But I would have loved to see Kendrick go a full seven innings and let “Dough Boy” get his first save.

Utley, Hamels, Rowand and . . .  That’s it?  No Howard?  Good.  He doesn’t deserve it.  Grant it he was hurt for a chunk of this season, but his numbers are not good enough to make it to the All-Star game.  Ultey was a no brainer.  Not only is he the best 2nd Baseman in ALL OF BASEBALL.  But he should be in the running for MVP.  If you take away Hamels’ last few starts I’d be arguing that he should be starting for All-Star game.  But because of his inconsistency of late, I’d rather not have him actually appear in the actual game.  Just what this team needs is for its “ace” to lose his confidence by getting shelled in an exhibition game.  As for Rowand, I only need to mention one statistic:  .359 batting average w/RISP.

Monday the Phillies take on the 35-47 Astros.  While it’s not the same team that kept the Phillies out of the Wildcard spot a few years back, they are a baseball team.  And as of late, the Phillies could end up sweeping or being swept by any single baseball team in existence.  Moyer had a good last outing until his meter ran out from being old and pitching in the hot temperature.  Hopefully this time Manuel can do a better job of realizing when his starter can no longer throw strikes.  As for the opposition, Woody Williams comes in with a 3-10 record and a 5.58 ERA.  The Phillies made their own bed by only being able to take one from the Mets.  Now they have to once again crawl towards first in the East, starting with Houston.

Last start:  ND / 6.0 / 2 ER / 6 H / 1 BB / 4 SO / Milwaukee

Last words . . . anybody wanna sign my petition of having Burrell go to the All-Star game?

I still have a bad taste in my mouth from the ASS-tros series a couple years ago when that rat bastard Billy Wagner served up a longball to Biggio.

Rowand, Hamels, and Utley all deserve to be all-stars, but I feel Rollins got snubbed.
