Sports… the Philadelphia way

Game 1 = bad, Game 2 = badder

GAME 1

The Good:  Once again, the offense didn’t roll over and die.  Coste is finally playing at the level he deserves to play in and showed it with his homer.  Durbin lowered his ERA 72.56 points.  Helms and Burrell didn’t completely suck.

The Bad:  Once again, the pitching rolled over and died.  Games like this are tough to lose because everyone does their job.  Hitters hit, fielders make plays, but the pitching can’t do a thing.  There’s no one to blame but the bad pitching and there’s no end in sight.

I really don’t have much to say about Game 1.  The team didn’t play all that bad.  It was those damn people that throw the ball at the other guy with a bat.  But this double-header is starting to bring me back down to reality.  This team has no chance.  Half of the pitchers on this team should still be in AA.  I know injuries are hurting this team, but every team goes through injuries.  If anything is going to happen (anything good), a big move has to be made by the trading deadline.  Even if it’s for next year because Garcia is leaving, Gordon SHOULD be retiring, and Moyer is eventually going to be too old.  This team needs pitching and I have no idea where it is going to come from.

GAME 2

The Good:  If it wasn’t for Chase Utley, I would no longer watch any of these games.  That’s the only good thing that came out of this game:  the fact that Chase is on the Phillies.

The Bad:  I am no longer considering Hamels an ace.  I’m not saying he sucks and he’s a bum, I’m just saying that he’s back to being a little above average pitcher.  Will someone please take Geary and put him and us out of our misery.

Well this was ugly.  I never thought I’d come around to saying this but . . . Howard is a bum.  What the hell happened to him?  Why can he no longer hit the ball the other way?  I no longer drop what I’m doing to watch his at-bats.  I don’t know if it’s a mental thing or something wrong with his swing, but if he keeps playing like this, the Phillies won’t be over .500 for much longer.  One player can not carry this team.  I would not blame Utley if he comes out saying he wants to be traded from this team.  It is obvious that the management of this team does not care about winning.  I know some of their transactions turned out bad, but this team is getting worse by the second!

Whatever Howard has, it must be contagious because Hamels has it too.  He doesn’t have good enough stuff to get bye if he doesn’t have his control.  After he walks the 2 batters in the first, I knew the Phillies had no chance.  What were they gonna do, go to the bullpen?  HA!  Hopefully everything will seem better in the morning because all I know is that right now it can’t seem any worse.

I’m so fed up with this team that I don’t even care about looking at tomorrow’s matchup.  You want my prediction?  The Phillies suck and they’re gonna lose.  There ya go.

Last words . . . I apologize for my angry blog, but I have the right to be angry.

Good summary. Gas-Can Geary sucks and sucks bad. J.D. Durbin is not the answer to fill the 5th starter vacancy. Chase Utley is indeed awesome. The Phils season could slip away during this 4 game set with the Mets this weekend…ugh!
