Who said baseball is a boring sport?
The Good: The offense being able to consistently score runs to either tie the game or take the lead. CHASE UTLEY and JIMMY ROLLINS. I’m just waiting for Ruiz to cool off, but it looks like that might take a while. Alfonseca being able to prove that people over 65 can still serve a purpose in the world.
The Bad: The pitching being so bad that the offense had to keep scoring runs to tie the game or take the lead.
I don’t know what the hell is going on with Howard. I thought he had finally come around back to his old form, but now it seems he only cares about the long ball. He’s the black Adam Dunn.
Now that was a ball game. This was a perfect example of the team’s strength and weakness.
The ability to come from behind numerous times and score runs makes them an amazing offensive team. And it doesn’t take an expert baseball analysist to tell you that the Phillies pitching (starting/bullpen) SUCKS. But none of that matters when you win. So everybody be happy and celebrate because I foresee this happiness not lasting long with the incoming Mets.
When Burrell struck out looking in the 8th inning, I almost fell off of my bed from laughter. He sits the bench for God knows how many games, finally gets an at-bat, and STRIKES OUT LOOKING!!!. The pitch may have been low/outside, and it might have been uncomfortable for him cause he was a little wet, but with 2 strikes you have to swing the freakin’ bat. Every time Burrell is at the plate, I can’t help but think of Ahmad Abdul Rahim. Most of you should get the Bad News Bears reference I just made. He was the kid that closed his eyes and swung the bat. That’s pretty much what Burrell does. He just swings as hard as he can at balls. And takes the pitches that are down the middle or maybe a little bit outside. Actually, if I was Milt Thompson, I’d tell Burrell to close his eyes when he swung, he couldn’t do any worse.
Well, it’s the moment of truth, Game 1 of this important series. The Phillies bring up J.D. Durbin with an impressive 94.50 ERA to go against Mets starter Orlando Hernandez. I want to say the Phillies win maybe one game at the most, but I can’t help being brainwashed by this team and thinking something amazing will happen. I know the Mets have gotten some of their starters back from injuries that they didn’t have the last time the Phillies played them and they should be a stronger team, but stranger things have happened. All I know is that I am looking forward to this series.
Last start: ND / 7.0 / 0 ER / 6 H / 1 BB / 7 SO / Oakland
Last words . . . Dobbs is one of the clutchiest hitters in the game.
