Sports… the Philadelphia way

Carlos w/ 4 RBI, Kendrick w/ win #2

The Good: Ruiz has proven that he is more then capable of being the number one catcher on this team. Utley providing more reasons on why he is going to be the starting 2nd baseman for the NL All-Star team. Kendrick doing exactly what was asked of him, and being able to rebound after a rough first inning.

The Bad: Howard accumulating 4 K’s. 10 LOB (but that doesn’t really count considering they scored 10 runs and had about 63 base runners that game).

Boy, that Charlie really knows how to manage, having Ruiz steal home. But in all seriousness, why did he leave Kendrick in to bat if he was going to take him out after one walk. I’m not saying that he should have had someone pinch hit for him, but if you leave him in to hit, at least let him face more then just one batter. If he was going to be on such a short leash, why not just have someone hit for him?

I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again. I enjoy a game in which the Phils score 10 runs, but I’m always worried about the next game. More often then not, they come back the next day and get 3 total hits. I don’t want to ruin anyone’s good mood by reminding them that the Reds are the worst team in baseball, but this has to be a series sweep. They are MORE then capable of doing it. The Phillies need to maintain a winning mentality regardless of who they are playing. If the Phils can get this sweep, then there’s less pressure on them when the face up against the Mets.

Wednesday could be a tough one. Harang has been dealing of late, but the good news is that he is a righty. If nothing less, this should keep Burrell on the bench once again. Moyer isn’t going to shut anyone down anymore, but hopefully he can keep the Phils in it long enough until they can pile up some runs. But they’ll have to do it with some small ball as Harang has only given up 8 homeruns in 107.2 innings.

Last start: W / 8.0 / 2 H / 0 ER / 2 BB / 7 SO / Seattle

Last words . . . I think it’s time to buy myself a Ruiz t-shirt jersey.

It’s nice to have Chooch back and playing well. After that walk-off homerun he went into a tailspin and was even banged up a bit, but now within the last week or so he’s started hitting better. He’s a high quality 8-hole hitter for sure.

Aaron Harang is a very tough righty, but the Phils can handle him…that’s my shot at optimism.
