Sports… the Philadelphia way

Kendrick gets #1.

The Good:  Howard hitting another homer and accumulating 4 RBIs.  Burrell not being a total waste with 2 RBIs coming with 2 outs in the inning.  Joe Table coming through in the clutch getting a big out.

The Bad:  A shaky first inning giving up too many extra outs.  Madson losing his stuff and/or Charlie leaving him in for too long.  Still have 8 LOB.  Helms sucks.

Bucknor has to be one of the worst umpires around.  That was one of the worst called games behind the plate I’ve ever seen.

This is what the Phillies are gonna have to do if they want to compete this year.  Score runs throughout the game.  The typical Phils have one big inning and will just try to ride it out for the rest of the game.  Today they kept adding the runs whenever they were needed, and when you have a bullpen as they do, runs are always needed.

Howard seems likes he’s starting to get out of his funk by getting 3 hits and with 2 of the 3 off of a lefty.  All I need to see before I can say he’s back to his old form is hits to the opposite field and less strikeouts.  I know he’s gonna stack up his share of K’s considering he’s capable of 50 homeruns a season.  However, there are times when all that is needed is a base hit and he needs to stop trying to always hit a 600 foot bomb.

Not only do the Phillies have to go up against a another lefty tomorrow, but a very good one.  I can see tomorrow being one of those frustrating games.  The types when they’ll score 9 runs one game then the next one only get 3 hits.  Runs are gonna be hard to come by off of Sabathia.  But hopefully Phillies starters can watch this workhorse and see that it is possible for a starter to go more then 6 innings.  His last start he went 8.1 innings, then the 2 before that he pitched a full 9.  As for the Phillies thrower, who knows what version we’re gonna get.  The 3 hit complete game shutout or the 5 innings 6 runs given up.  I’m not a betting man, but I’d go with the latter.  Winning the series would be nice, but when you look at these teams, the Indians are just too good.

Last words . . . should the Phillies be interested in Lidge?

the phillies should be interested in Lidge like a fat man is interested in cake. They just go together. Last word for me, Mesa has not had a scoreless inning this year!

Lidge just hit the DL. Interest on hold.

Kendrick is impressive for a rookie. I’ll take a start like that every time and be pleasantly satisfied.

Howard was good last night. Now if he could only continue to do that more consistently.

Charlie Manuel’s fault for leaving Madson in too long.
