Don’t give up hope.
Sorry about the delayed blog, but Father’s Day is more important then the Phillies. I actually had a pretty good weekend (probably due to the fact that I watched yesterday’s game and missed todays). I spend Father’s Day weekend down at LBI and our cable provider does not carry CW. Lucky for me I brought my radio and only had to listen to the heartbreak that is the Phillies bullpen.
There’s not much to say about this series. This is pretty much what everybody expected. Lose 2, win 1. And even winning that 1 was a shock for me.
The worst part about this team is that they are so very very close to being a good team in the National League (notice how I said National League, they’d be demolished in the heavy hitting American League). Maybe Eaton is finally going to come into his own and be the decent #4 starter is was brought in to be, even though right now he’s probably the team’s #3 guy.
I’m here to tell you today that I have not yet given up on the Phillies. I have pretty much given up on a World Series championship but think they have a chance at the playoffs. The biggest hole this team has is the weakness of the bullpen. Good news is that Myers and Gordon are coming back. While Gordon is still gonna be old and shaky, as long as Manuel doesn’t overuse him, he should do fine. Myers is probably the teamest 2nd best pitcher and will be able to pitch for the team 3 out of 5 games instead of once every 5 games. The hitting is always going to be there for the rest of the year, this team will score runs. They’d probably score more runs if Dobbs started in left field, but that’s a story for another day. All we can hope for as Phillies fans is that Gillick pulls something out of his ass and provides the team with another bullpen arm. He doesn’t have to be stellar, just better then Yoel Hernandez, and that doesn’t take much. There’s still plenty of time left and it seems that Manuel has finally got these guys playing decent ball. But we’ll see if I still have such confidence in the fightin’s after they take the AL Central leaders this week.
Last words . . . Happy Father’s Day.

At least the Mets recent woes have been able to close the gap, NL East is by no means out of reach at 2 games.

Damn shame the Phils lost that game. A case could be made for the Phillies actually should have swept the Tigers. Look at Friday’s mental errors in the 2nd inning and then poor bullpen job. They won Saturday. Then look at yesterday’s managerial blunders in the 7th inning.
