Sports… the Philadelphia way

Stop hating on Charlie.

Get rid of him.  He’s the worst manager ever.  He’s a bumbling fool.  My grandmother could manage a better game.  Crucify him, crucify him.

Sorry about, got caught up in the peer pressure.

Now I know that the cool thing to do nowadays is to blame Charlie Manuel for everything that goes wrong in the world, maybe even for global warming.  But it has to come to a point where the players need to start taking some of the blame.  Watching todays game, I discovered something.  Phillies leave runners on base:

1st - Rollins on 3rd, 2nd - Ruiz on 2nd, Lieber on 1st, 3rd - BASES LOADED!!!, 4th - Ruiz on 3rd.  Now in the 5th and the 6th inning they didn’t leave anyone on base.  But then again in the 5th Howard hit into a double play and in the 6th Rowand was caught stealing.  I could continue but I think the point has been made.  How do you blame Manuel for that?  Before everyone starts yelling at me, I agree that Manuel manages a bad game.  But he’s not the one telling Rowand to steal 2nd when you’re down by 4.  He’s not the one running down the foul line and then letting a ball drop in fair territory.

Manuel can take the blame for mismanaging a bullpen, or making stupid substituions, but he’s not the one who isn’t driving in any runs with the bases loaded with one out!

At this point I’d like to make a point about my last post about Garcia.  I accept the fact that it may have been the wrong time to criticize him since he did throw a great game.  But when it takes a player of his calibur (and by calibur I mean paycheck) to need 9 starts before he has a good game, I’d call him a flop.

Overall a terrible game.  Lieber pitched well accept for his one bad inning, but instead of having any kind of passionate come-back, the bullpen self-destructs.  Utley had a GREAT break-up slide.  Burrell once again sucked.  Dobbs hit another homerun (YAY!!!) but was too little, too late.

Last words . . . so much for being over .500.

Although everything is not his fault, some things are. I can’t stand Charles Fuqua Manuel, but I’ve felt this way since the beginning of his first season as the Phils manager. I just don’t see what good he does for this team, but I do see the bad. Countless bad moves, bullpen abuse, double switches, and yes, he is a bumbling fool. I don’t blame last night’s loss on him, but he’s part of the overall problem.
