Rashad Barksdale…what were the Eagles smoking?

Confounding draft pundits everywhere, the Eagles picked  Rashad Barksdale, a baseball player from the University of Albany, as their 6th round pick.  He played one year of college football.  Did the Birds know something nobody else knew?  Or did they waste a pick?

Strengths:
Has good size and a solid frame…A great athlete…Good timed speed…Great ball skills…Good hands…Versatile and could project to multiple positions…Really took to the game and looked natural…Showed potential as a return man…Big upside.

Weaknesses:
Super raw and has very little experience…Didn’t play against top competition…He will need a ton of coaching and technique work…Not real physical and may lack a football players mentality [he'll fit right in with the Eagles] …Not a man coverage guy…More of a long-term project.

Notes:
Played baseball his entire college career before walking onto the football team as a senior…He is being looked at as both a corner and safety…Extremely intriguing prospect for the latter rounds who could be brought in as a developmental type.

6th round picks rarely make a contribution. The only one that comes to mind in recent years is Dexter Wynn. Why not take a flyer on a great athlete who ran a 4.38 40 at his pro day.

YOU ALWAYS HEAR ABOUT THESE “GREAT” PROJECT PROSPECTS BUT IVE NEVER HEARD OF ONE BEING A GOOD FOOTBALL PLAYER DOWN THE LINE….THE PRODUCTIVE SMALL SCHOOL PLAYERS THERE THE ONES THAT TURN OUT GOOD IN THE LATE ROUNDS.. NOT PROJECT PLAYERS

I watched this Barksdale play in college. Eagles fans are going to be pleasantly surprised. The kid has enormous potential. You can see it when he is on the field. He could end up as a running back. Not sure what position, but he will be around for a few years. Count on it

Don’t you Love that Title??? I love guys who sit on a couch eating Nachos all the time, and come up with the negativity, as the sauce runs down their shirt. For one, he is from Hudson. Those kids are tough there. Rashad was probably the best Running back they ever had or darn close to it. I wouldnt be suprised if the Eagles have him running a few balls in training camp. Maybe a few punt returns also, if they are smart. Besides his athletic ability, if he is anything like his father, he is a great guy as well. Tough to find with all of those “athletes” out there who I wouldn’t want as a role model anytime soon for the kids out there. Good Luck Rashad.
