Brett Myers to the bullpen
No, that title is not a joke, the Phillies have decided to move Brett Myers into the setup role for Tom Gordon. Jon Lieber will take Myers’s spot in the rotation. So, in a matter of two starts, Brett Myers goes from opening day starter to setup man.

The move reeks of desperation.
Jon “11.57 ERA” Lieber gets his starting job back after a grandiose display of unprofessionalism during his time in the bullpen. Kind of like rewarding your dog for shitting on the rug. I guess Gillick feels this is prime time for a Jon Lieber trade bait audition.
Granted, this move should definitely strengthen the bullpen, but at what cost to the starting rotation? Remember, Myers has been the Phillies best and most consistent starter for the last 2 years. Myers has been victimized by the homerun ball thus far this season, allowing 5 ding dongs in 15.1 innings pitched. However, when you look at his hits allowed (15), strikeout numbers (19 Ks), and opponents batting average (.250), Myers does not seem far from putting it together.
I guess the move can’t make the team any worse then they already are.

NBC10.com has video of the Charlie Manuel/Howard Eskin bare knuckle cage fight. Speaking of reeking of desperation, Charlie Manuel’s behavior is a little disconcerting. Davey Lopes and Jimy Williams have probably started to move their files into his office.

Putting Meyers in the bullpen goes to show you that if you cry enough you get your wish. Mr. $7.5 million Lieber, made enough noise to get his wish. Why can’t Lieber borrow a line from TO’s media machine, take the 7,000,000 reasons to be happy and walk out to the bullpen? Besides isn’t it easy for a reliever to get some kid to run to Tony Luke’s or Bull’s BBQ for him? Lieber looks like he’s made for life in the ‘pen.
I’m anxious to see how Lieber pitches tonight, that fat pig.
