The NFL Schedule
Its that time of year again, the glorious unveiling of the NFL schedule. No doubt every sportstalk host from Eskin to Angelo will have an opinion on how many games the Birds will win, based on the difficulty of the pending game slate.
Too bad none of this ever matters. Remember last year? When the Eagles schedule came out, it was scrutinized and the prevailing sentiment was – the Birds better start fast, because the 2nd half of their schedule was to be dotted with NFC landmines. Then the Eagles went 6-2 to end the season.
Remember the games slated as cakewalk victories?
at Houston (24-10 win)
at San Francisco (38-24 win)
Green Bay (31-9 win)
at New Orleans (24-27 loss)
at Tampa (21-23 loss)
Tennessee (13-31 loss)
Lest you forget, New Orleans went from worse to first, and with Vince Young, Tennessee became a plucky team to be paid attention to. Teams arise out of the ashes every year in the new NFL, so spare me the “so and so has such an easy schedule.”
And how about the NFC East? Prevailing thought was the division would beat the hell out of each other. Dr. Z picked each team to go 9-7 in the NFC East. Too bad the Eagles dominated the division, where they were one swift kick in the balls away from sweeping the games 6-0.
So just remember, the difficulty of the schedule is determined the day the game is actually played. Of course, everyone already knew that anyway right?
