Eagles Trade for LB Takeo Spikes

Takeo SpikesThe Eagles have traded for strongside linebacker Takeo Spikes from the Buffalo Bills. In exchange, they gave up defensive tackle Darwin Walker.

All in all a good move. Walker has been part of the weakest team of defensive tackles that the Birds have had in a long time. The Eagles clearly needed to upgrade at LB and Spikes is top tier linebacker. The big question is whether Spikes is on the decline or not…he’s 30 after all.

In addition to Spikes, the Eagles acquired backup QB Kelly Holcomb (ooh, I’m so excited!! how bout you?). Reports are that they’ve also give up a draft choice, though exactly which one hasn’t been stated.

So, the Birds make a move to upgrade their defense. Does it work? I guess we’ll only know when we see the performance of Spikes and whether Bunkley can step into a major role on the D-Line.

Honestly, Holcomb is an awesome throw in to get in the trade. Holcomb has been better than Losman most times. He’s the new Garcia if he picks up the offense.

Also, I have to say, I love the new design of the site and I love the concept of having the sports highlight in the corner, but I HATE that it plays automatically every time a page loads. It’s so annoying.

Walker was a pedestrian DT. Spikes is a stud. He’s a playmaker, something the Eagles haven’t had a strong-side LB for a long time. Plus, he’s a vocal leader. It will be interesting to see him play alongside Trotter. I think this helps the run defense immensely. I can’t imagine the draft pick would be anything more than a 4th rounder.
