Billy King, 3rd best GM in world

Yes, you read that correctly, the man that’s given astronomical contracts to Kenny Thomas, Brian Skinner, Sam Dalembert, Willie Green, among others has been deemed the 3rd best GM in all of professional sports.

Forbes Magazine created a scientific evaluation process that obviously measured all the wrong variables. One of factors measured is improvement over one’s predecessor – which is basically the only reason why King is ranked, since the 76ers were so putridly horrific (1992-1998) prior to Billy King’s tenure as 76er GM.

So, basically, King’s ranking is due to one factor: Allen Iverson.

My eyes shot wide open when I read the headline. Billy King has to be among the worst GM’s EVER. He’s done such a poor job that Philadelphia fans should be suing him for negligence which is the cause for their extreme emotional distress.

Maybe I ready it wrong and Billy Jean King is a tennis GM or something.

That entire list is really a joke. They have Kevin McHale as the best general manager in sports. I saw McHale at 1, King at 3, and promptly stopped reading that article. I believe it actually said Billy Beane was the highest baseball GM on the list – at 23 or something. I understand that lists are tough to make in general and oftentimes controversial, but come on, this is a joke.

    Ahh yeah…

A good GM would have turned the 2001 Finals into something more substantial, but King didn’t make one significant upgrade to the team, unless you can call VanHorn or Big Dog an upgrade??? Look at what the Mavs and Heat have done to propel their teams to championship caliber.

If King is to credit for anything, it’s that he’s turned some late-round 1st and 2nd round picks into NBA players, such as W. Green, Korver and Dalembert.

He’s going to have a lottery pick, hopefully top 3, to pick this year plus the picks from Denver, so this will be his time to shine and prove that he’s worth all the money he’s made running the 76ers into the ground since Brown left.

Here’s a question – why should the 76ers trust Billy King to rebuild the team?
