Sixers roster breakdown

Let’s get this out of the way before a phenomenal slate of college hoops starts today. Here’s a look at the improving Sixers (21-38) and briefly what I think about them.

Rodney Carney - I still feel like he looks kind of lost on both ends of the court. I just don’t think he’s comfortable or natural yet, but he is very athletic and has gotten better this season.
Sam Dalembert - The guy is still clueless on how to play basketball and a total adventure at times, but I’ll give him credit for playing the best basketball of his career. His contract still makes me want to cry, but at least he’s showing some improvement lately.
Willie Green - I like his aggressiveness and his general offensive game. He’s just lacking a better 3-point shot and some general consistency. Either way, I think he’s a good guy to bring off the bench.
Steven Hunter - I’d like to point out that I said last season that the Sixers should play both Dalembert and Hunter at the same time. And this year, the Sixers tried that and it’s basically turned around their season. He’s got nice athleticism, a solid feel for the game and most importantly, room to improve still.
Andre Iguodala - He’s been outstanding in general since the Iverson trade. He’s taken more shots - something I wasn’t sure he was capable of - and still has gotten his teammates involved. While his defensive shortcomings largely go unnoticed, his improvement on the offensive end is undeniable.
Bobby Jones - He shouldn’t be in the NBA. I honestly think he’s a decent bench player in the D-League.
Kyle Korver - Definitely the type of player any team in the NBA would love to have on its bench. He’s the purest shooter I’ve ever seen on the Sixers and has improved the rest of his game. He’s still poor defensively, but that will never be his strength.
Andre Miller - It’s really been a pleasure to watch a point guard who looks for his teammates first, second and third, and then can still score if he has to. Right now I believe the Sixers go as Miller goes.
Kevin Ollie - Well, I don’t really care for anything he brings to the table. But I guess if he’s your third point guard, that’s not bad. I’d probably like him more if he wasn’t making $3 million this season.
Shavlik Randolph - He’s going to be a very solid NBA player. I can’t believe I’m saying this, considering what a non-factor he was at Duke, but I just think his game is better suited for the NBA. He not only hustles, but has a very impressive array of post moves and understands the game well.
Joe Smith - I honestly think he’s been outstanding since coming over from the Nuggets. At the very least, he’s much better than he was during his first stint with the Sixers. He’s given the team a good effort off the bench almost every single night.
Lou Williams - I’m torn on this kid. I used to think he was totally overmatched, but he has gotten better recently. I still don’t think he’s a long-term solution, but he is showing signs of progress.

You’re way off on Willie Green. He’s killing this team right now, and he’ll continue to do so as long as he’s given minutes. I’m keeping track of his ineptitude on my blog. It goes unnoticed because he scores, but he always does more damage than good.
