Stories abound
A lot of good stories around the interweb today. The cream of the crop to follow:
Sportsline.com reports that Chase Utley has packed on some poundage:
All-Star 2B Chase Utley somewhat bulked up to 204 pounds. Utley finished last season around 185 pounds and appeared worn down, but that didn’t affect his hitting. He had 10 of his 32 homers in September.
Utley got married, and he got soft. I guess all the raging honeymoon sex in Mexico wasn’t enough to stave away those extra pounds.

Heckert circuitously indicates Stallworth likely isn’t coming back.
___
The spin machine indicates Stallworth is out as well. Heckert is already taking the we’ll been fine with the guys we’ve got position:
“Before we traded for Donte we were kind of going into the season thinking this might be our group without Donte, and that was based on some rookies that didn’t play at all,” Heckert said. “It’s probably more apparent to us that we think those guys can play, and with Hank and Jason Avant, I think they’ve proven they can play and be performers for us.
“I think we’ll be fine with those guys.”

Flyers lost again last night and Scott(ie) Upshaw was held scoreless for the first time in his career as a Flyer. Scott, your not 9 years old, drop the ie.
By the way, Derian Hatcher has 3 points in 60 games. Three! He didn’t get his first point until the 22nd game of the season, and then went 29 games before notching his second point. So one assist in 51 games.
As a matter of comparison, Robert Esche has 2 assists in 18 games. Thus, if Eshe played in 60 games as has Hatcher, he’d project out to 7 points versus Hatcher’s 3.

A short synopsis on the top prospects in the 2007 NHL entry draft. The Flyers will likely have the top pick, and wouldn’t you have guessed it, this is the first year in awhile where there isn’t a slam dunk Crosby or Ovechkin type player.

Remember, not resigning Stallworth means giving up a 4 this year, but probably getting a 3, 4, or 5 next year in compensation.
That’s a really good point. I never thought of it that way.
Nice photo of Maurice Clarett. How’d that pan out?
Half of the players listed that the Birds are going after aren’t going to be close when the Eagles pick. Glad to see Heckert is all over it.
As much as I would like to see Stallworth stay, the Eagles will do just fine without him. Stallworth is obviously a speedster that opens up the deepball, but if I remember correctly didn’t Hank Baskett have at least 3-80+ yard receptions this year? 1 against Dallas at home and 2 against the Falcons. Reggie Brown had a tremendous year and should be a pro-bowl calliber receiver in years to come. Greg Lewis came up with a lot of catches this year. I like the young receivers the Eagles have so Stallworth isn’t a top priority considering the Eagles only have $8-9 million under the cap to work with.
