Does WingBowl Make Philadelphia Look Stupid?
Is it just that I’m out of touch with the pulse of Philadelphia or do other people think that Wing Bowl is a sorry, pathetic event? I can’t be the only fan who gets sick and tired of all the bullshit promotion that 610 WIP does for the event, and can’t help but think that they pump it up to be more than it really is (the funny thing is that some of the WIP hosts obviously have disdain for the even as well, and its actually a good litmus test for which hosts are the real deal and which are frauds)
After a season for Eagles football, Wing Bowl just looks like a mockery of Philadelphia fans to me. Any thoughts?

Being a vegan, I can’t understand the event…but it’s not like it’s just us. There are eating contests all over the place, a lot of which have sportsradio ties. It’s always been more of a morning thing anyway, and I absolutely loathe the 610 morning show. It’s not nearly as annoying when you just hear it casually mentioned by Anthony and Steve or Macnow and Didinger.
I think its harmless fun. An excuse to get shitfaced and ogle women at 8:00am. The final fairwell to tailgating until the Eagles season starts up again.
That being said, I really have no interest in the event at all.
Anthony, Steve and Macnow are probably the 2 most sane philly sports media guys in the city. Didinger does great analysis, but sometimes I think he overthinks things and I’ve never agreed with him about the need for the Eagles to aim for 50/50 run to pass.
You guys don’t have to listen to 610 anymore. You do know 950 is a sportstalk station. I suggest listening to the 700 level from 7-10, I think they are best thing the station has going. They crush Macnow.
I used to like Macnow until I realized something, he doesn’t respect a younger opinion. If there is any hint that a caller is under 30 years old, Mcnow transforms into this pompous authoritative elder.
Having actually been in a wing eating contest as a charity fundraiser (I downed 55 in 30 minutes when I was just a skinny 150 lb college kid), I think it can be good, harmless, tasty fun.
That being said, the way wing bowl competition actually plays out – the contestants binge and purge as opposed to actually digesting what they eat – is pretty disgusting and wasteful, and also makes the “eating” claim of the contest pretty phony. In the contest I was in, you were disqualified if you puked during or immediately after the contest. In this contest, you can still win as long as you don’t puke until you hit the locker room.
Its also kind of classless to have to go to the strip clubs to get women for the event. Surely there are attractive women in the Delaware Valley who don’t do poll and lap dances for a living.
I consider it a stupid tasteless Morning Show stunt that has blown itself out of all proportion. You can tell most of the rest of the WIP hosts, especially Didinger, don’t really care for it that much.
