We kept eight [linebackers] throughout most of the year,” Heckert said. “We have a lot of young players there with Omar [Gaither], Matt McCoy and Chris Gocong, and we’re interested in seeing how [special-teams player] Tank Daniels develops.”
“[Linebacker is] probably is not a major priority for us right now.”
Argh. Mel Kiper Jr. believes Patrick Willis will be available in Round 2. I’d take him in a heartbeat.

Let me present to you the second worst columnist in Philadelphia, Jack McCaffery! Jack McCaffery everybody. What crisis? A crisis of media speculation? And wow, an NFL coach, a control freak? Please name one NFL coach who isn’t a control freak.
Two other notes about McCaffery.
1. He still sides with T.O. in the debacle that was the 2005 season.
2. Angelo Cataldi ranked him among the top sportswriters in Philadelphia in The Great Book of Philadelphia Sports Lists.

Great article about Ryan Howard’s contract conundrum. Why aren’t the Phillies rewarding Howard just yet? Because they don’t have to. He’s 5 years away from free agency. He’s also 1 year away from arbitration. So in reality he’s one year away from a substantial raise. Why give it to him now is Stark’s argument.
