Thoughts on the Iverson Trade
As much as it surprises me to say this, I’m very happy with the Iverson trade.
Why does it surprise me to say this? Because up until now, Billy King has been completely incompetent as GM. But alas, it was a good trade, so kudos should be handed out where they are due.
So why do I think it is a good trade? Well, for one, they landed two draft picks in the upcoming draft (for a total of 3). Word on the street is that this coming draft is the deepest in over a decade. The Sixers will get 3 solid players.
To be honest, there was a time when I wasn’t sure they’d be able to get a single first round pick, so this is just massive. But it gets better. The Sixers got their first real point guard in forever, with Andre Miller. Miller actually looks to pass first. What a concept. Not only that, but he’s a good passer too. With Webber and Miller on the same team, the Sixers become a better overall team and I expect to see the other players improve their game because of the passing excellence in Webber & Miller.
But things get better. The Sixers also picked up Joe Smith who only has one year left on his contract. That means that the Sixers will be able to free up some cap room sooner rather than later.
So the Sixers got a good deal, in my view. But what about Denver?
Terrible. Unless of course they are picking up Iverson to fill in for the next 14 games that Carmelo Anthony is out on suspension. Think about it. They are both selfish ball hogs. The problem with Iverson has always been his ball hog tendencies. He doesn’t make people around him better. And now you have the leagues 1st and 2nd leading scorers on the same team, competing for shots. That’s just plain nonsense. You can expect to see Denver fall apart in short order.

Could Iverson be the T.O. of Basketball and implode the Nuggets.
