Sports… the Philadelphia way

The Sad State of Philly Sports

Flyers Snyder

After reading this article, you may think I’m crazy but I’m trying to put things in perspective…and I’ve just now realized that Philly Sports fans have absolutely nothing to look forward to at this point in time.

After thinking things through, I’m more depressed than I’ve been in a long time about sports in Philadelphia. There is literally no team right now that’s a championship contender. We’ve got a dud-coach with the Phillies. We’ve got 2.5 teams that can’t play defense (the Sixers, the Flyers and half the time, the Eagles). The team we all love to love, the Eagles, certainly has talent, but they’re underacheivers. They can’t start games and they can’t close out games. Super Bowl teams do both.

To make things worse, we have no great college teams this year. No prospects of a cinderalla story. We do, though, have the worst freakin’ college football team of all time. There’s almost a sense in which, in a miserable Philly way, that Temple has been the most enjoyable part of the sports year so far. They are laughable. Totally laughable.

So here we are. A city without championships. Our basketball team is a crock with a superstar ball hog. Our hockey team is in shambles after firing, arguably, the best coach in the NHL. It has no leaders. It has no defense. It has no chance. Our baseball team is coming off a year in which they won less games then they won the year before. They are stuck with a coach who loses games. And we are stuck with the prospects of a nother tempting season of “what could have beens”. Our football team looks like it is either uncoachable or poorly coached. Mistake and after terrible mistake. Mistakes that lose games. Players who don’t show up for quarters. Players who don’t know how to take things seriously when they should be taking things seriously.

Enough ranting, Philly Fans. Let’s suck it up. There is no chance of our basketball team making the playoffs. No chance of our hockey team making the playoffs. A baseball team that seduces and fails us year after year. And a football team that’s missing the intangibles…

How much more of this do we have to put up with?

Hey, I’m a Toronto Maple Leafs fan in Philly. I know how you guys feel about your teams. My family moved here from Toronto a few years back and we have gone through the same thing with the Leafs. Go so far, THEN……lose. However, if you are interested, we have a 11-5-3 record so far this year. You are welcome to jump on our bandwagon, if you don’t have NHL Center Ice, you can find our games on NHL.com, hurry up because the bandwagon is getting full quick!

I really feel what you feel. I am just like you. My girl thinks I’m nuts becasue I watch ever pitch of every phillies game. I watch the Sixers and people laugh at me. The Flyers forever will be my one and only NHL team. The Eagles besides the Phillies in 93 ( Don’t punch me in the mouth for the reference) are the only team that I truly truly believe could have and should have given me a parade on Broad St.

PS- I am still waiting for my chance to hang from the stop light at Broad and Pattison.
