It’s That Time of Year Again…
Well, it’s that time of year again. You know. The time of year where we’re all wondering whether the Phils will squeak into the playoffs, but realize it all depends on the team right in front of them in the chase. The time of year where we all start questioning whether the Birds have what it takes to make a Super Bowl run (yes, based on the first 3 quarters, no based on the absolute collapse in the 4th).
While the Phils and Eagles are on the top of our minds, hockey season is right around the corner. If you’re driving on any of the major Philly roads you’ll notice the orange and black billboard signs advertising a new hockey season. Do the Flyers make a Stanley cup run this year? Well, I’m not getting my hopes up. Forsberg and Gagne are great, but until the Flyguys start playing some tough D, the benefit of the doubt is against them.
Then there’s the Sixers. The one team we don’t even have to wonder about. Will they get to the Championship game? No. That’s an easy answer. Not so long as they can’t play defense. Sure, they have offensive weapons to be jealous of. But when you can’t crack down and protect your lead, bad things are sure to follow.
So, it’s that time of year again. Most of us are pretty excited about the Birds, hopeful about the Phillies (esp. Ryan Howard), ready to see what the Flyers can do, and completely disillusioned with the Sixers. Same old, same old.
When are we going to get a championship around here? I for sure am not going to be counting the seconds.
