Phillies Turn It Around Against Mets
Hey, I went to the Sunday game against the Reds. Extra innings. Some great defensive plays. But ultimately, disappointment. I was about ready to let go of the Phils chances.
And then they nailed me. Three straight dominating wins against the Mets. The first two wins were offensive juggernauts. This last win was a complete-game shutout gem from Leiber. Now Lieber was supposed to be the ace of this team. Up till now, he’s been mediocre, which just doesn’t cut it from your ace. But last night was brilliant. Hopefully a sign of things to come.
So here’s a question: do the Phillies have a real chance this year? We all know how they’ve pulled us up and let us down for the last three years. We’ve all gone through the promise not to let them do it to us all over again. But here we are. Same place. New year. Same old, same old? Not quite. Two cancerous players have been removed. You’ve got a young group of gritty, hard working guys playing. You’ve got guys like Coste and Dellucci coming off the bench and winning games.
I like this team. It feels right this year. So regardless of what I’ve said in the past, the Phillies have my heart this year and I’m with them to the end.
