Sports… the Philadelphia way

Howard Wins the Home Run Derby

Ryan Howard For the 2nd straight year the Phillies have walked away with the Home Run Derby champion. Well if the Phillies can’t win a ball game, they might as well win a meaningless home run contest. Last year, Bobby Abreu won the trophy with an outstanding performance and this year Ryan Howard was the victor over Mets’ third baseman David Wright. Abreu hit 24 home runs in last year’s first round and 41 for the entire night while Howard only needed 23 total to win the trophy last night (8, 10, 5).

Howard was quite the contributor to charity last night as he raised over 100,000 dollars for charity, won a lucky fan a brand new house courtesy of Century 21, and won a lucky fan in the stands 500 free airline flights thanks to Mastercard. Howard also knew that Phillies fans back at home needed a boost of energy after seeing the recent slump the Fightins’ have been in lately.
