Sports… the Philadelphia way

The Real Phillies

Seems like it happens every year. The Phils start the season off slow, then they go on a winning streak where they seem invincible, then they struggle.

Kyle recently asked for the Real Phillies to Please Stand Up. Ever since he asked that question, they’ve lost four straight series. First, they got swept by the Brew Crew. Then they lost the BoSox series 2-1 (only winning the final game). Then they lost their Mets series 2-1, again only winning the final game. Then they lost another series to the Brewers, 2-1, AGAIN only winning the final game.

During this four series lull, the Phillies have lost 6 one run games while winning a total of zero one run games. Patterns are starting to emerge and they don’t look good. Why are they losing all their one run games? What does that tell us about the real Phillies? Why are they losing the first two games of all their series? What does that tell us about the real Phillies?

So let me ask our readers a question: are there any conclusions to be drawn from the last 12 games? Does this give us a picture of the REAL 2006 Phillies team? Or, did they just get unlucky and lose a lot of close games? Whatchya think?

I let the Phillies do it to me again. I let them get me excited and thinking about the playoffs during the winning streak, but I am afraid reality has set in. There pitching is just not good enough. If you look back, the bullpen was lights out incredible during their winning streak, and it is no surprise that in the last 4 series they have pitched very poorly (which certainly was a contributor to losing the 6 1 run games). Unfortunately I think that what we are seeing now is the real Phillies bullpen. I am not writing them off, but it is going to be a struggle.

Bryan, don’t feel bad! Not only do I let the Phillies do it to me every year, but I also let the Sixers and Flyers do it to me too.

Any small sign of greatness, and I blow it out of proportion every time!
