Eagles Primed to Improve on 6-10 Season
This offseason the Eagles didn’t make Terrell Owens or Jevon Kearse type additions like they did 2 years ago but there’s no doubt they improved their team. They made some good additions in free agency and then they had an excellent draft which should help in a year or two. They were unsuccessful in getting 2 big profile players, C LeClares Bentley and WR Eric Moulds, but they still found other players that will help this team win games. I don’t expect this Eagles team to be 12-4 or 13-3 as they were 2-3 years ago but it’s hard to see a squad this talented be as bad as they were last year. The Eagles were obviously quite disappointed with their 6-10 showing last year and want to make this year a whole new ball game.
While the Eagles added key players to the lineup, they really only lost 3 players that had an impact. Terrell Owens of course headed down to Dallas but he wasn’t a huge factor last year due to his suspension from the team. Keith Adams signed with Carolina as a free agent after a disappointing season where he was put in as weakside linebacker but didn’t live up to the team’s expectations. ND Kalu signed with Houston and he won’t be too much of a loss since this team is stacked on the defensive line after the draft and free agency. As for Mike McMahon, he went to Minnesota and I think all Eagles fans agree that he couldn’t have left soon enough.
This Eagles team should be a much better squad this year and I really think veterans such as Dawkins, McNabb, and Trotter will keep this team in line. Especially Dawkins because he is the kind of guy that plays with a huge amount of heart and knows exactly what the Eagles mean to the city of Philadelphia. I also believe that Lito and Sheldon will play alot better than last year when they were beat constantly on deep balls. Both have pro bowl caliber skills and I think they will step up their play this year rather than having another disappointing campaign. Look for players such as Todd Pinkston, Mark Simoneau, and Darwin Walker to have a bigger impact now that they are all almost backup players and aren’t expected to be the center of attention.

Kyle,
I’ll be writing a post on this in a couple days, but I’m not convinced. The three people you mention at the end: Dawk, McNabb and Trot are all going to start showing signs of aging and injury (even though Trot isn’t super old, he’s already pretty slow and poor pass cover guy).
McNabb just won’t be the same QB anymore. I’m willing to swallow my words if I’m wrong, but he’s just not going to be the old McNabb. This year, it will be clear that his career has started its decline.
Now, I suspect that the Birds will improve on their record from last year, but I’m going to go out on a limb and say that they miss the playoffs AGAIN this year.
