Phillies lose series to Red Sox, end on high note
So, the Phillies carried a three game losing streak into their series with Boston. They then proceeded to lose the first two games of the Boston series. To add insult to injury, each night, the stadium was full of Boston fans.
I got to go to the Sunday game with my father. Besides the rain on, rain off, rain on, rain off again weather, it was a great baseball atmosphere. Phillies fans were insulting Redsox fans, Redsox fans were insulting Phillies fans. I loved it. Especially the taunts about how Johnny Damon wouldn’t have dropped that flyball.
Unfortunately, my section was actually dominated by the Red Sox Nation, but at least for this game, the last laugh was on them. The Phillies dominated the game. Yeah, Ortiz only came in when the game was already over, but you know what, the Phillies still would have won had he played the whole game. Abreu was hot. He had 5 ribbies and only missed the cycle by one double. Lidle pitched a solid game, except for the occasional long ball. The relief pitching was actually suspect. Both Rhodes and Gordon struggled a bit.
The thing is, the Phillies needed this win. Especially as they gear up for the Mets. Let’s hope the momentum of this offensive explosion will carry them to a series sweep.
