Eagles Trade Up To Get Some Justice

Winston Justice that is. With the 39th pick of the 2006 NFL Draft, the Eagles selected the offensive tackle from USC. Reid was glad to have him around at 39, and indicated that if Brodrick Bunkley, DT (FSU) hadn’t been around at 14, the Eagles would have selected Justice at that spot. So to nab him at 39 seems like a steal.

There are some character concerns with Winston Justice, however. Since leaving high school, he’s gotten in trouble with the law twice (including a prostitution solicitation). But Reid and Co. hopefully have learned from their Freedie Mitchell and Terrell Owens debacles to take character very seriously, and they’ve probably done their homework on this one.

In addition to character issues, Justice is still a bit raw at his position. He tends to get beat by quick edge rushers, is prone to holding penalties. Still, there is strong evidence that Justice has huge upside and in the Eagles’ system, is bound to do well.

The Eagles know that winning championships begins at the line and with this draft, they’ve certainly bolstered both offensive and defensive lines, perhaps more so than any other team in the draft.
