Season Highlights - Flyers and Sixers

In 2006, the NHL returned from a one year lockout period and the Flyers went into the season as a potential Stanley Cup winner. They are no longer a favorite in the Eastern Conference but their season still provided plenty of highlights and memories.

Peter Forsberg suiting up in a Flyers uniform, Gagne scoring 45+ goals, Niittymaki and Esche making big saves, Gauthier coming to the Flyers at the deadline and providing huge hits, Hatcher knocking Crosby’s tooth out, Shootouts with plenty of excitement, 11 consecutive road games with an 8-3 record, Niitymaki winning the Olympics MVP, Jeff Carter and Mike Richards having very solid rookie campaigns, Knuble providing a great complement to Forsberg-Gagne, Kapanen scoring consecutive game-winning goals in overtime two nights in a row, and Joni Pitkanen coming through with clutch goals late in regulation or overtime.

As for the 76ers, they were unable to grab a playoff spot since they struggled with inconsistency all year long. They came up with big wins every now and then but managed to lose games to teams they shouldn’t have. This team did provide several highlights during their 2006 campaign.

Allen Iverson having a good season averaging 31.4 points a game, Steven Hunter playing well after his trade to New Orleans was rescinded, Willie Green returning from a major knee injury, Andre Iguodala completing one of the most amazing dunks ever seen during the All Star Slam Dunk Contest,Webber providing a great complement to AI in most games, Dalembert showing signs of greatness once and a while, Shavlik Randolph showing lots of heart when he was put in the game, Korver hitting a 3 pointer to put the Celtics game into Triple OT, and Iguodala winning the MVP for his 30 point performance during the Rookie-Sophomore game.
