Darren Daulton has Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest
Back in 1993, Darren Daulton and the Phillies owned the city of Philadelphia. The whole city’s attention gravitated toward the Phils and their eccentric crew led by Daulton, Lenny Dykstra, John Kruk, and Mitch Williams. I still remember my older brother adoring Darren Daulton while I became Pete Incaviglia’s number 1 fan. Dutch, Nails, Kruker, Inky, and the Wild Thing took the Phillies all the way to the World Series, but couldn’t bring home a title thanks to Joe Carter. Since then, all 4 men have gone their seperate ways. As for Daulton, he has managed to go pretty much insane during that time period. And Daulton knows it, and he admits it even.
Daulton has become a believer in metaphysics, which has nothing to do with the force of gravity or atoms, but rather a sixth sense that Daulton says can’t be experienced by the body. He says it’s something beyond sight, smell, and any other sense. In an interview with Sports Illustrated, Daulton revealed that he discovered this so-called sixth sense during a baseball game as a matter of fact. He hit a game-winning single while playing for the Marlins and he told his wife that he didn’t physically get that hit. He claims that another sense hit that ball and he never felt it before.
“I hit a line-drive just inside the third base line to help win a game. The strange thing was I didn’t hit that ball. I never hit balls inside the third base line!”
Sounds like Angels in the Outfield if you ask me.
Around the time that Daulton was vying for the Phillies managerial position with Larry Bowa, he supposedly discovered another dimension according to a Daily News article by Paul Hagen. In this dimension, Daulton thinks he traveled through time and saw a former Phillies manager, his brothers, and family but they were all much younger. Charlie Manuel doesn’t sound so bad now, does he?
The most interesting belief Daulton maintains involves the end of the world. Dutch believes that the day of reckoning will occur specifically on December 21, 2012 at 11:11 a.m. in Greenwich Mean Time.
“I’ll wake up at night and look at the clock and it’s 11:11. I’ll turn on the TV and see a baseball game tied at 11 in the 11th inning. I’ll look out the window and see a car passing with 1111 on the license plate. The car will turn into a driveway with 1111 on the mailbox.”
At that time, the chosen ones will simply vanish from this plane of existence. The reason for that specific day is because it is the final day of the Mayan calendar.
“The Mayan calendar stops at Dec. 21, 2012 – the date the Mayans believed the world would end. On that day, at 11:11 a.m. Greenwich Mean Time, those who are ready to ascend will vanish from this plane of existence, like the crew of the Enterprise in Star Trek.”
As for Dutch being one of those to vanish, here’s his thoughts.
“I can’t wait to disappear, I’d disappear today if I could.”

Suddenly Tom Cruise sounds normal.
Way to go Dutch.
I hope he never disappears, these theories are incredible. They provide too much entertainment, I would hate to see that disappear.
What is the difference between Dalton’s beliefs and that of fundamentalist Christians does the rapture sound familiar? The only difference is Daulton provides exact time, obviously a no win situation if or not it happens. Preaching unconditional love and forgiveness is a message no one can refute in a time when terrorism, suicide bombings and approximately 25 Hundred American men and women are sacrificing time and lives in a war created by fundamentalist Christians and fundamentalist Muslim leadership.
Mr. Daulton is speaking the truth according to cutting edge science. Many of the great thinkers have and are still writing and lecturing about the same fundamentals as Mr. Daulton. I have had out of body experiences like Mr. Daulton and was able for a time to do so regularly but have gotten away from the practice. It is sad that what scares your sense of what is real will be ridiculed. I am not saying that I believe that the world will end with the end of the Mayan calendar, but what I am saying is that there are millions of people who share some of the same experiences and beliefs as Mr. Daulton and while much of the press is making him out to be crazy, he should be applauded for his courage and his honesty. Many great minds of the past have been thought of in the same light that Mr. Daulton is being thought of by the press. Remember the world is flat, is the center of the universe and there are only three subatomic particles. Do some reading folks, there is an awakening going on, if you stay asleep and cynical you are going to miss it.
I think this gives everyone inclined to do so the perfect vehicle to once again villify this man. They are probably the same people who booed his infant son at a ballgame and again booed Daulton himself during his valiant attempt in 1996 to try to earn the money from his contract by trying to play with those battered knees. Thanks, Darren, for providing these idiots more fodder to feed on, at YOUR expense once again. Hope you find inner peace, one way or the other. The thing that bothers me is not the things Dutch is talking about these days, but the trouble he’s been getting into. Hopefully, he’ll spend more time figuring out the metaphysical than he has spent drinking. Still love ya, Dutch.
It is sad that so many people have never experienced these things – I have from the time I was three years old – There are most definately other planes of existance . The soul lives on – I wish I could get in touch with him – He isn’t crazy – He is gifted . Some of us can’t handle these experiences – Some of us awake from them knowing a peace that is indescribable… Some of us are so frightened that we cannot function in a what we have come to know as a “normal” existance… But truth be told, we all wake from them and know that we are changed forever. I wish him the best on his path . It can be a lonely one, but the benefits are priceless.
I saw Daulton’s interview on Real Sports tonight and became interested enough to spend the past 2 hours researching him ( I am not a huge baseball fan ).
Having studied this topics of metaphysics and philosophy a bit ( although I am no expert ) and having experimented with psychadelics of various kinds, including dissassociatives in the past, I have definitely had similar “flashes” of insight( speaking about everything being one, and past, present, future all being at the same point in time, etc NOT about the world ending in 2012).
I don’t recommend anyone do drugs as one can become dependant, but the dissassociatives, things like dxm, ketamine, etc and even heavy alcohol can cause one to temporarily stop sensing there own body to a degree. It is like the boundary between you and the rest of the universe sort of blurs.
You get this feeling of having always existed, and that you will always exist, and everything makes sense, etc. I had similar drug free experiences as a young child ( this is outside the scope of my response, but researching a little about psychological development will tell you why children can often feel this way, ie id ego super-ego ).
This gives the sensation of “being one”, and all time and space being one and everything is everything, all is good etc. I tend to believe in this, although I would guess his motivations for the new book and coming out like this are as much about getting attention, perhaps a new job in baseball, and maybe somehwat influenced by tiny flashbacks back to his days of inebriation.
All the same, more power to him, I find these topics very interesting.
My name is Paula. I met Darren Daulton a couple of years ago. I can’t say the man is my best friend but I felt like I got to know him well enough to form a fair opinion. This man is more sane than most of us. He has experienced more in a lifetime than most of us can imagine. Once you’ve had everything your material heart desires, your heart’s inclined to want more. For most of us we never obtain our material heart’s desire so what would we know about what comes next. Most of us struggle to pay our bills day to day but what would happen if that struggle ended tomorrow? what would we want then? What would you hope for then?
Think you would be satisified by your dollars in the bank? Guess again your dollars in the bank are only a distraction from your true heart’s desire. He’s not crazy we are.
Having read the article, read the comments, and seen lots of recent coverage of Dutch, I feel maybe a bit differently from what most of you are saying.
It looks very much like what Dutch is dealing with is the symptoms of what’s known as Korsakoff Syndrome. It is a problem where the frequent and pervasive presence of ethanol in the bloodstream has deprived his body of thiamine, which has caused a unique encephalopathy. To wit: the man has drank himself into brain damage.
He is NOT tuning in to a new age metaphysics – he is experiencing pervasive amnesia. He is not exploring a deeper spirituality – he is forming a byzantine structure of mental constructs, scrambling to make logical sense out of his frequent mental lapses.
Feel free to love the man, to remember his achievements fondly, and to care for his condition, but do not fool yourself into believing there’s anything healthy or legitimate about his claims. He is a man undergoing an organic mental illness which may not be reversible, and it’s all due to his out-of-control drinking.
Remember that next time someone offers you whiskey.
Oh, and one more thing:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Confabulation
Wikipedia explains all.
Drinking and proper genetics. Otherwise, there would be a lot more Darren Daulton’s in the world. Which, in my opinion, wouldn’t be a bad thing.
This message is to Darren, hang in there. Remember we still love you but stay focused. Don’t be arrogant, be humble. Listen to the people that want to give you good advice and your message will be embrassed with honor. We are always here for you. 4036444
OK, so I read this whole thing, scrolled to the bottom of the page, and it says

I think I’m freaking out!
Does anyone smell a concerted effort by some fringe group to defend Daulton?
I don’t think its a coincidence that you’ve got a bunch of people ganging up on this thread to defend a man who’s literally gone off his rocker.
Cultish smells are all around. In fact, this group-think reactive behavior reminds a lot of Scientology.
THIS IS FOR DARREN: Darren what is happening to you is totally real!! and do not listen or be concerned by anyone or anything. Keep focused. You are doing an incredible service to humanity. One thing that is very, very important is that you need to find a Master!! one who knows and is living in the only true reality. One that can guide you to living in the only place that matters and you know what I am talking about. Please please find him!
Anyone that lives life in a vacuum …plagued with judgement and critisism is missing a world beyond our comprehension. Consider that human beings live in a very limited context and can only view the world from our past and present views and experiences. A small but growing percentage of people know that most are looking at life from a rabbit hole and choose a more conscious way of living. It is part of the evolution of our species and inevitable. For those that think Darren is anything other than an enlightened soul that is expanding and being a stand for truth and the greater good of all……well they’ll join the party later………
God Bless You Darren…
