Sports… the Philadelphia way

Nova Takes BC in OT

They stareted the game down 9. They were losing 25-9 at one point in the first half. They trailed the entire game. But they won. Villanova managed to defeat Boston College by 1 point in overtime. A last minute in bounds pass for a layup (that was scored for goaltending but would have gone in anyway) sealed the win for Nova.

If you’re a Nova fan, the game was a nail biter the whole way through. Time and time again, they’d crawl their way back, and then lose ground, crawl back, lose ground. But never gained enough ground to take control of the game.

Boston College played some excellent defense throughout, shutting down the flow of Nova’s offense. The biggest problem of all was that the threes weren’t dropping.

But Jay Wright stayed calm and did an excellent job as coach (he made something like 70 substitutions through the game - I’ve never seen anything like it). He was constantly making strategic substitutions to change up his players for defensive or offensive situations. And it paid off.

Player of the game was definitely Randy Foye. He turned it on in the second half and single handedly took Nova to the elite eight with 21 second half points. I was particularly impressed with the rebounding of Nova’s guards against the bigger BC team. That may have single handedly kept in the game despite the dismal offensive performance.

Hey for the zillionth time, we were treated to another NCAA tournament “down to the wire” game. I love this stuff.
