March Madness – Day 4 Recap
The first action of the day featured the Pittsburgh Panthers playing the Bradley Braves. Bradley, being from the disputted Missouri Valley Conference, had something to prove against Pitt. And Bradley did just that by outplaying Pitt and winning behind the excellent play of Patrick O’Bryant who had 28 points.
Bucknell’s hopes of advancing to the Sweet 16 were impeded by Memphis. Memphis controlled the game and won 72-56, and they continue to be the most underrated and unknown number 1 seed in the country.
George Mason was one of the teams that barely got into the tournament and most people thought that Hofstra deserved the spot instead of GMU. All of the doubters were silenced yesterday as George Mason stunned UNC and advanced to the Sweet 16.
UConn took on Tubby Smith’s Kentucky Wildcats who proved to be a tough competitor down the stretch. UConn was able to hold off UK’s late game charge and won the game by a final score of 87-83.
West Virginia versus Northwestern St. was pretty much a blowout since the tip-off unfortunately. Northwestern St. was unable to continue their cinderella story after defeating 3 seed Iowa in the first round. WVU overpowered Northwestern St. on their way to a 67-54 victory.
Texas were up against the Wolfpack of N.C. State and rolled to another victory on their road to the Final 4. Texas won by a final score of 75-54.
The only roadblock between Ohio State and the Sweet 16 was the Georgetown Hoyas. The Hoyas played a well-rounded game and came out with a 70-52 win.
The final game of the day was one of the best. Villanova played Arizona and both teams put up good performances but ‘Nova came out on top 82-78 thanks to the play of Allan Ray and Randy Foye.

This has been another great tournament with lots of close games right down to the very end. I’ll repeat the chorusline “Why can’t the NBA be this exciting?”
