Sixers manage to hold on against Bobcats, almost flop again

At the end of three periods, the Sixers were up by 20 points against the hapless Charlotte Bobcats. Sound like another nightmare scenario? The Sixers have patterned their season around the attainment of huge leads and huge flops, even to terrible teams.

Well, this time, the Sixers managed to hold on and squeak out the victory by 4 points, thanks to some late misses by the Bobcats and despite Salmons’ sloppy play.

The Sixers just seem to have this problem with playing disciplined basketball. Sure, Allen Iverson is having the best season of his career, stats wise. Sure the Sixers are scoring the lights out, with huge offensive production. But these guys just don’t seem to be able to close games out. They lack mental focus. Quick shots. Undisciplined defense. Attempts to make up for mistakes by being superman (Dalembert?) and getting out of position for rebounding.

Seriously, this team could be good. They’ve got three players with huge athleticism (Iverson, Igoudala and Dalembert) and one player with monster range (Korver).

But until they hunker down and play some disciplined basketball, this could be a long season of late game flops.
