Not the Eagles?!?!?
Ok. So apparently everyone is picking Carolina or the Vikings or the Falcolns to win the the NFC Championship over the Eagles. Some stupid people, like Merrill Hodge (who thought the Eagles wouldn’t even make the playoffs last year) think Dallas will win the NFC East.
Well, not everyone’s picking against the Eagles, but almost everyone. So what gives? The reasoning: not quite sure - but apparently the analysts think that that betting against the Eagles makes for sexier predictions. Perhaps their brilliant minds think that the Eagles are going to get bitten by the post-Super Bowl bug? Or maybe internal tensions will explode at some point in the middle of the season? That’s not really much to go on!
Are you kidding me? These guys are crazy. Of course, they are supposed to be analysts. But that’s not what they do. The secret’s out. Everyone knows it. The key is to be an obnoxious fool. It’s the Madden mold.
Look. ESPN has 12 guys make predictions for the 2005 season. Only 3 of those 12 have the Eagles winning the NFC championship. What sort of koolaid are they drinking?
And somehow the guys over at Sports Illustrated got fed the blue and black KoolAid - a handful of them have the Panthers winning the SuperBowl and none of them have the Eagles winning the NFC. Why so much confidence (there is near universal consent at SI on this prediction)? Why so much confidence that the Eagles will falter?
