Sports… the Philadelphia way

Phillies Blast Past Marlins, Show Signs of Life

The Phillies really looked terrible at all levels against the Houston Astros. In three games, their three, four and five batters were miserable. The closers blew games. The fielders committed errors that cost the game. The manager either failed to make decisions or made the wrong decisions. At least one starting pitcher didn’t start to focus until giving up far too many runs in a first inning.

So naturally, as fans, we blew them off. This team looked pathetic. They sucked. Just like they’ve stunk for the past 12 years. It’s just another year, another wasted season.

But then last night, they came out roaring against the Florida Marlins on route to a 12-5 win. The three, four and five batters (Utley, Abreu, Burrell) got a combined 7 hits. More than the entire series against Houston.

So here we are…ready to give up on our baseball team. The Eagles season just about to open on Monday…but you know what, the Phillies are only 1.5 games out of the wildcard race and that’s after losing 5 straight.

Bets are against them, especially with the easy schedule that Houston has going down the stretch, but hey, you never know, and while the Birds take first place in our hearts, we’ll keep our eyes on these Phils. If they want, they still just might be able to get it.
