Dalembert Signs With Sixers

In what is believed to be a six year deal worth over $50 million, the Sixers have retained Dalembert through the prime of his career. From the very beginning, Billy King and Sixers’ management made it clear that they were going to re-sign Dalembert, but they managed to do so before he even got the chance to be courted by other teams.

This post-season the Sixers have been rigorous in executing their “develop and retain” policy. Many fans are questioning whether the Sixers are betting on unproven players, and setting themselves up for a “ceiling” down the road when the upside potential runs dry.

Dalembert was the biggest surprise this past season, where he blossomed into an offensive and defensive threat with all-start potential. His resigning solidifies the youthful core that includes Korver, Iguodala and Green.

I’m all for the Sixers “develop and retain” policy. You’ve gotta try something new when what you’ve been doing doesn’t work. The Iverson era ain’t getting us a championship.
