Phillies to trade Thome? Only if…
…Jime Thome and his agent waive the full no-trade clause that is built into his contract AND there’s a team out there that actually wants an aging health issue with a big price tag.
Prediction: The trade is not going to happen.
The Phillies owe Thome $43 million in salary over the next three seasons. Not to mention that he’s an aging veteran with serious health issues and terrible performance so far this year. Who’d actually be willing to make the trade?
I don’t see a trade happening. Thome has a nice deal sitting here in Philadelphia collecting his money while he sits on the sidelines. He’s getting old, and probably doesn’t want to move himself and his family to another town. He’s got all the leveraging power on this issue: his no trade clause gives him the final say. On top of all this, there’s got to be some team who wants Thome. Put 1 and 1 together and you just don’t see a trade happening. Thome can’t help any playoff contender this year. His future health is uncertain. He makes too much money. And…well, I’ve repeated myself enough already.
