Sports… the Philadelphia way

Do the Flyers’ have an edge going into the new NHL season?

Al Strachan of the Toronto Sun thinks so. In the article he cites several reasons that the Flyers have the bets shot at winning the Stanley Cup:

1. He sees them retaining their strong veteran core (Jeremy Roenick, Tony Amonte, John LeClair, Donald Brashear, Danny Markov and Eric Desjardins)

2. He sees their 2003 draft picks as “impact ready” for the NHL – Jeff Carter and Mike Richards

3. He sees them making a move to acquire free-agent Scott Niedermayer.

4. He sees them having a shot at getting Mike Modano

Is this just wishful thinking? Won’t the Flyers run into salary cap issues with the new collective bargaining agreement? We’ll have to wait and see how things fall out.
