Westbrook Signs One Year Deal

As was expected, Westbrook has signed a one year contract with the Eagles. This was a smart move by Westbrook, and probably spurred on by his new agent. If things go well this season, he may be looking at nice money in one year’s time.

Holdouts are bad (take a hint, Owens).

Westbrook finally signed the one-year, $1.43 million contract the team offered him in February, just before he became a restricted free agent. He had refused to sign the deal last month and boycotted the team’s post-draft minicamp. But after changing agents and perspectives, Westbrook decided he would best be served by joining his teammates.

“It’s tough to be away from your teammates,” he said. “We were going through the business of it - the whole football-contract negotiations. And I decided it was time for me to come back and try to continue to get back in shape.

“I think I have a better shot of getting a deal done with me here, helping the players get better as well as myself, and letting the coaching staff know that I’m ready to help our team win a Super Bowl.”
